Nurse Manager (Acute Care)

The Nurse Manager, Acute Care, is responsible for providing the overall direction and leadership within the 4 West Oncology/Medical-Surgical, 30 bed Unit. The Nurse Manager ensures delivery of quality nursing care. Duties include:
Plans, organizes, directs and control operations relating to Nursing Practice Acts as a role model and mentor for all levels of nursing staff Ensures delivery of quality nursing care to Veterans receiving care on the 4 West Oncology/Medical-Surgical Unit Collaborates with Physicians and other Clinical department leaders and staff of all levels on operations relating to care of the Veterans Completes/approves staff schedules Monitors appropriate use of supplies Updates policies, as appropriate Completes annual Proficiency Appraisals of staff Ensures 4 West meets/exceeds internal and external accreditation reviews of that unit Excellent interpersonal skills with strong communication skills Work Schedule:

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:
The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Experience:
Bachelors in Nursing, Masters in Nursing preferred Certification by ANCC in Nursing Administration and/or Med/Surg preferred Chemo/Oncology Certification History of excellent collaborative relationships with physicians and support services Excellent verbal and written communication skills Minimum of two years of recent progressive leadership experience such as Charge Nurse or Nurse Manager is preferred Minimum of five years of recent nursing experience as a Registered Nurse Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated team building and problem solving skills Experience in coordinating the daily flow of community care processes and visionary in interdisciplinary program planning History of successful implementation of change within a health care system Reference:

Direct patient care work involves considerable walking and standing (up to 12 hours/day), pushing, pulling, bending, and heavy lifting (45 pounds and over). The incumbent accepts assignment on any tour of duty and in whatever area services are required. In-direct patient care work is mostly sedentary. Typically the employee sits comfortably to complete the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending and carrying of light items such as patient records and supplies
