The ASPCA Forensic Sciences team supports animal cruelty casework throughout the U.S. by providing forensic services at the request of law enforcement, enabling others to do this work through educational efforts and conducting collaborative and novel research that supports criminal casework. The Forensic Analyst will lead teams of forensic responders, manage a portfolio of casework, and direct the collection, documentation, and analysis of physical evidence from scenes in national criminal cases and ASPCA Veterinary Forensic Science Center (AVFSC) criminal cases. Serving as a Certified Crime Scene Investigator, they will consult internally and externally, providing expertise on animal cruelty cases. As a subject matter expert, the person in this role will form or assist in theanalysis and maintenance of veterinary forensic evidence as well as provide expert witness testimony. This is a dynamic job that involves supporting many critical aspects of the Forensic Science team. The Forensic Analyst will be responsible for training in the application of forensic sciences to veterinary medicine and animal cruelty case investigations. They may lead workshops, short courses, and facilitate traditional academic teaching. This job requires the ability to quickly shift priorities while working in and providing leadership and expertise through all stages of casework. The Forensic Analyst will report to the Senior Director of the Forensic Veterinary Sciences team in Gainesville, Florida. Due to the nature of this work, this role requires extensive travel, sometimes last minute, to support case work and the needs of the jurisdiction.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Oversight of Forensic Evidence (40%) Implement, plan, oversee and/or conduct crime scene documentation and forensic evidence processing on national deployments and other large-scale cruelty case responses in coordination with Legal Advocacy and Investigations. Assist the assigned lead Forensic Analyst or act as the lead Forensic Analyst while on scene, utilizing standard crime scene and evidence documentation procedures and evidence processing techniques. Consult internally as well as externally on processing of scenes and analysis of physical evidence to assist law enforcement officials, forensic veterinarians and legal counsel with animal cruelty and neglect investigations. Serve as the evidence custodian, ensure appropriate maintenance of evidence and appropriate tracking of chain of custody and oversee disposition in coordination with case leads and Legal Advocacy and Investigations. Produce comprehensive crime scene and/or evidence reports. Provide courtroom testimony as an expert witness. Will comply with current laboratory and analytical practices and will develop and update evidence management protocols and guidelines. Academics, Training and Development (30%) Develop and teach online Forensic Science curriculum for Florida International University Coordinate with Legal Advocacy and Investigations in developing educational courses and workshop. Provide lectures and trainings locally and nationally Assist in the development of new scene and evidence processing techniques and research projects for the application of Veterinary Forensic Sciences to current and future casework. Assist with the student externship program. Administrative (30%) Manage case planning with Forensic Sciences leads Schedule, organize and communicate with forensic responders in preparation for a case. Manage forensic responders when deployed. Follow-up with forensic responders and other parts of the organization working on responder management to ensure timely feedback and an up-to-date responder base. Assist in maintaining and stocking fleet vehicles to ensure safety and functionality. Operate Fleet Vehicles, including driving Crime Scene Investigation vehicles. Maintain and stock evidence equipment and supplies, before, during and after cases. Other duties as requested. Exemplifies the ASPCA's Core Values:

Must be willing to travel on short notice (up to 50%). Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including long days and weekends, as required. Must provide a valid driver's license upon hire and pass a motor vehicle history check demonstrating a safe driving history. As part of the driving requirements of this role, must also pass a Department of Transportation Medical Exam Master's degree required, focus in Forensic Science or other relevant area of specialization.
Qualifications:
Ability to work independently as well as on a team, Certification as a Crime Scene Investigator or ability to obtain within the first 18 months of employment., Detail oriented; organized and willing to take ownership of project-critical tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment, Excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills, Experience in courtroom testimony in animal cruelty cases a plus, Experience in developing education programs and teaching, Experience in evidence handling, storage and analysis. Must be able to demonstrate a fundamental understanding of industry best practices pertaining to evidence handling and storage., Experience in working cooperatively with law enforcement or other regulatory agencies, Familiarity and experience with evidentiary issues related to the prosecution of cases of animal cruelty and neglect preferred., Management experience preferred and the desire to lead and coach rotating responders and staff, Membership in peer-evaluated veterinary and forensic professional organizations, or the ability to join, Must have the ability to operate large vehicles and pull trailers and drive long distances., Must provide a valid driver's license upon hire and pass a motor vehicle history check demonstrating a safe driving history. Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
