Program Specialist, Credentialing

The Program Specialist, Credentialing, serves as one of two Credentialing and Privileging Program Specialists at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center. The Program Specialist assists the lead program specialist in the performance of his/her responsibilities. The Program Specialist assists the lead program specialist in ensuring that all appointment and reappointment applications (for full and part-time staff physicians; consultant and attending, on station fee basis, without compensation (WOC), scarce medical specialty contract, physicians, osteopaths, dentists, optometrists, podiatrists, nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, and physician assistants) are appropriately initiated, processed, and approved. The Program Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all elements of the credentialing and privileging program for the above-named staff members are accurate, complete and in full compliance with Veterans Health Affairs (VHA) and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Organization (JCAHO) regulations. A full and complete understanding of all credentialing processes conjoined with careful attention to detail is essential to successful job performance. Duties include:
Prepares and presents newly developed privileges, including criteria, to the MEC. Ensures that all appointment and reappointment applicants meet the criteria for requested privileges. Reviews all provider packets for completeness and accuracy Knowledge of Credentialing policies and procedures, ability to search for policy information locally and at the National Level Uses computer skills and ability to maintain databases to track expiration dates of all state licenses and certifications Accurately applies VA credentialing policy directives to the credentialing process Works closely with HRMS and Universities, Chief of Staff, Service Chiefs, Section Chiefs and Executive Assistant to the COS ensuring that the initial and reappointment process is completed in an efficient and timely matter Meets the needs of customers within Credentialing and Privileging and HDA program Communicates effectively and treats customers in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures Assists the Credentialer Specialists in researching complicated cases, which involve discovering critical element and resolving issues of concern prior to finalization of the credentialing and privileging process and presentation to approving officials Work Schedule:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
(1) Knowledge of Credentialing policies and procedures, ability to search for policy information locally and at the National Level (2) Knowledge of VHA computerized national database system (VETPRO) and the requirements associated with the credentialing and privileging program (3) Ability to maintain databases to track expiration dates of all state licenses and certifications (4) Organizes work, sets priorities and meets deadlines such as timekeeping and submission of quarterly reports and invoice (5) Communicates effectively and treats customers in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have master's or equivalent graduate degree, OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, OR LL.B. or J.D., if related OR, Combination:
