Health System Specialist

The Health System Specialist (HSS) is responsible for facilitating improved overall quality, education, and completeness and accuracy of health record documentation. As well as promoting appropriate clinical documentation through coding guideline and extensive interaction with physicians and other staff to ensure clinical documentation and services rendered to patients are complete and accurate for care rendered in inpatient and outpatient settings across North Florida/South Georgia VHS. Serve as technical expert in health record content and documentation requirements. Perform reviews of the health record documentation; developing criteria, collecting data, graphing and analyzing results, creating reports and communicating in writing and/or in person to appropriate leadership and groups. Obtain appropriate corrective action plans from responsible clinical services directors, when necessary, and recommend improvements or changes in documentation as deemed necessary. Ensure accuracy and completeness of clinical information used for measuring and reporting physician and medical center outcomes with continuing education to all members of the patient care team on an ongoing basis. Assist in the development of guidelines for data compatibility, consistency, and monitoring for compliance to improve the quality for clinical, financial, and administrative data. Compile, review, abstract, analyze and interpret medical data incidental to a variety of patient care activities. Conduct daily reviews of all new admissions/outpatient encounters to identify those with potential, documentation improvement opportunities, through periodic evaluation during the patient's stay. Review the health record and discuss the case with the clinical staff. Perform admission reviews for specific patient populations to facilitate appropriate clinical documentation and ensure the level of services and acuity of care are accurately reflected in the health record. Adhere to established documentation requirements for ICD-10 CM/PCS, CPT/HCPCS as outlined by accrediting agency guidelines, regulations, policy and medical-legal requirements. Develop and implement ICD-10 CM/PCS, CPT/HCPCS training/education programs for all providers to ensure the CDIS program objectives are met. Develop and conduct ICD-10 CM/PCS, CPT/HCPCS specialty specific seminars, workshops, short courses, informational briefings, and conferences concerned with health record documentation, educational and functional training requirements. Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-09 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. The required Specialized Experience for this position is defined as auditingcoding IDC10 guideline and; performing a variety of analytical, planning, evaluative, and advisory work associated with organized programs; directly contributing to effective administrative and clinical management of a facility's healthcare delivery system; providing support to the health care system in the monitoring and reporting of issues related to medical record documentation; OR, Education:

To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree with a major study in hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration; OR successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree with a major study in hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration; OR successfully completed an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled. https:

Physical Requirements:
The work is mostly sedentary, sitting and working at a computer for extended periods of time. The work also requires walking throughout the medical center to participate on rounds. Most duties can be accomplished by sitting, walking, standing, bending, and possibly lifting involved in the routine performance of the job duties. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
