Cooks at the WG-08 level independently prepare all types of meats, poultry, seafood, vegetables, fruits, sauces, and gravies for regular and modified diet menus. They prepare, cook, season, and portion food for all meals by following standardized recipes at different levels of difficulty and plan, regulate and schedule cooking procedures so that numerous completed food products are ready at the appropriate temperature and time. They are responsible for analyzing and correcting production problems independently and coordinating the cooking process for food items assigned directly to them. This position is primarily scheduled to work at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center and a few shifts at the Domiciliary (The HONOR Center). Other responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Prepares and cooks a variety of menu items including regular and special diets Maintains rotation of food bank inventories to prevent spoilage and retain quality of food items Uses standardized recipes and coordinates cooking times to ensure quality of products Prepares a variety of meat using all methods of dry and moist heat techniques Measures and weighs portions and ingredients according to standardized recipes or diets Adjusts standardized recipes as necessary to produce required food quantities Operates specialized equipment to cook food in large quantities Slice meat items by hand or machine, conform to specific size requirements or weight specifications Maintains the proper temperature for all foods during holding, transport, reheating and serving Coordinates preparation of a number of menu items for a meal and ensures all items are cooked to the proper degree of doneness for meal service Examines all food for quality and freshness before preparation Promotes a safe work environment by using equipment safely Work Schedule:

Experience:

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Stands and moves about on tile floors most of the tour. Frequently stoops, reaches, lifts or carries food and kitchen equipment. Hand dexterity is necessary in the utilization of machines to prepare foods. May need to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted or more with assistance. Works under stress and pressure existing in meeting schedules in the normal production and service of food to the patient. Must be able to adjust work place to meet varying workloads.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
