REQUIREMENTS

This position requires that applicants must have graduated from an accredited 4-year college or university with a degree or major coursework in public health, environmental science, environmental health, or a physical or biological science. Be able to lift 60 pounds and work outside all day. Must have a valid Driver s License.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This is a professional position in which the employee performs a variety of technical and skilled duties primarily conducting inspections in the OSTDS (septic system) program, as specified in the rules of the Florida Department of Health and other state and local rules, regulations and ordinances. This position is headquartered in Alachua County.

The employee must be able to keep accurate, timely records, maintain required continuing education credits and training and perform field work requiring moderate physical effort in varied weather conditions both independently and in a team environment. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor as needed in order to meet public health needs in the community. Enforces regulations with regards to the Onsite Treatment and Disposal Systems program. Performs plan reviews, client consultations, site evaluations, permit approvals, and system inspections for the program. Coordinates with other staff, initiates enforcement, and any other aspects of this program as required by state law or administrative code. Inputs construction and inspection data into an environmental health database on a daily basis as field work is completed. Prepares environmental reports on issues impacting public health. Keeps Director updated on environmental issues of special concern. Meets with engineers, architects, developers, planners, and other local, state, and federal officials regarding interpretation of rules and standards for development, planning, and modification.

Investigates sanitary nuisance complaints, prepares enforcement letters, and initiates enforcement if necessary.

Performs other duties as required or assigned to maintain environmental health programs in the department.
