1982 MAICO 490.
My 82 y/o neighbor, Tom Mitchell has owned this bike since new and has the original bill of sale.
Tom kept a detailed service record and in total it has 6 hr's use.
The bike sat from 1984 sometime until 2022 a huge oak tree fell on Toms shop where he had several motorcycles including this disasembled MAICO.
I went down with several neighbors to help cut up the tree and salvage what wasnt destroyed.
I saw the engine and wheels and other parts.
I have a 77 AW 440 in my shop, I'm the original owner also.
Long story short I offered to restore Toms 490 really just for the priviledge of working on a 490.
I had never seen one in person and I knew it was worth a nice piece of change for him.
Every fastener on the chassis is new.
Every seal, every bearing, every part thats wears is new.
It has a new electronic ignition.
New first over piston.
The expansion chamber is the original it came with.
It has a new Twin-air air filter The gas tank and the seat is original.
The fork tubes are hard chromed.
It has a new Kevlar clutch from Maico-only.
Actually we bought all of the replacemant parts on the bike from them.
It has the best powerband of any MX bike I have ever ridden.
The 490 clutch feels like off of a 125.
